Rainy holiday

Woke up to the sound of rain this morning. Rain gauge reads two inches since last night, and predictably enough, the yard is flooded. Time to go buy mosquito dunks.

In other news, I pulled up the agave that was growing off the side of our big mama in the front garden. It's kind of weirdly shaped, but already very big. It's in the "inventory" space for now.

Quick update

Been kind of a rainy end of the week. We've been getting a steady drizzle and the occasional downpour for the past three days or so. Of course, the garden loves it. Last weekend, we finally pulled up the oregano and the mint that were taking up so much space. We replaced them with a firebush and some hibiscus. Oregano and mint have been transplanted into other spots in the back, and hopefully this rain will help them take.

To do: Hack up the overgrown crape myrtles. Re-mulch cactus garden with decomposed granite. Mow!

Welcome evening visitors

Finally got a visit from our resident screech owls last night, at around dusk. We got a head-count of four. They spent some time on the birdbath and in the trees around the yard before it got too dark to see them. There's no evidence that they're using the nesting box, but we can still hold out hope. Nonetheless, it's good to see our little family again.
